Skyline & The Cloud – Everything you need to know

A lot of people that are curious about moving to or implementing our flagship software – Skyline in their business often ask questions which are all about how Skyline works with the cloud and how their data is stored, accessed and kept safe. This entry will answer the frequently asked questions along with some of the what if scenarios

What is Skyline?
Skyline is a cloud-based job management system or to be technically correct it is what is referred to as SaaS (Software as a Service)

What is the cloud?
Honestly? It’s a marketing-friendly way of telling you something is hosted on, accessed via and connected solely to the internet

What if my internet goes down?
A very common question, if your local internet goes down for any length of time you can always use other connections or even mobile internet to connect to Skyline, it’s one of the many benefits of having a cloud based system it’s accessible from any device with an internet connection.

What if your internet goes down?
Skyline has servers positioned in two separate data centres (buildings holding many different servers) in two separate countries and the data between the two is constantly mirrored/duplicated. This means that if one data centre was to lose connection for any reason you could still be able to use Skyline, in the background you would be using the opposite data centres server. In fact, you wouldn’t even notice the difference! So far, Skyline has never gone down.

How is my data kept safe?
We don’t just mirror the data between the data centres, it’s also regularly backed up key data such as usernames and passwords are protected using industry standard encryption and our password reset process features a 3-step verification process to ensure any password resets will only happen for the legitimate owner of the account.

What if a get a virus?
One of the many benefits of having a cloud based system is all the data is stored in the cloud, this means that should your computer or any computer used to access Skyline gets a virus, your data remains protected because there is no direct link to your data from your computer. Using Skyline means that even if your computer is compromised, your business-critical data is not.
